The One Thing I should Be Doing in My Walk With Jesus

Peggy Patrick Medberry

stain glass window of Jesus with lambs and little girl with blonde hair is looking up at with the title Let Jesus Show you the way

A few years ago I took this picture of my granddaughter looking at this breathtaking stain glass window of Jesus the Good Shepherd. Later as I looked at the photo, I was moved at the thought of how we as children of God look to Him to show us the way.

What does that mean? For me, it is prayer every day that asks the question, "What can I do for you, Jesus?" The answer is always the same. "Love." To love Him first, and then, whatever I do during my day - do it with love. That is His way. And so as I go about my day, I try (very imperfectly) to do things in love. Even when I'm tired, or don't feel like it, or don't think "they"deserve it and so on.

In the 23rd Psalm we read:

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He makes me to lie down in green pastures: he leads me beside the still waters.

He restores my soul.

Jesus is our shepherd and if we follow Him, He will lead us to the places that will give us peace and rest. He will show us how not to fear, because He is there. He will restore us.

All He asks in return is for our love. Everything He does for us is out of love. Oh, how everything would change if we simply try to choose Love first, and then try to reflect that Love to the world around us.

Jesus is our Good Shepherd. He will show us the way.
